Rocking chair, mid-20th century

A classic of Scandinavian design, this beech rocking chair is inspired by renowned Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, who drew inspiration from traditional Finnish chairs before applying his own modern design approach to this creation. Constructed using an ancestral method, the slatted backrest, lacquered black like the frame and arched glides, contrasts strikingly with the smooth, slightly rounded modern curves of the profiled seat in varnished natural wood.
