Octagonal plate with stylised floral decoration signed Abbaye du Bec. A beautiful shallow plate from the Workshops of the Abbey of Notre-Dame du Bec-Hellouin. The top perfectly confirms the origin: • Octagonal shape typical of their productions. • Green glaze (celadon/enameled stoneware) with brown trailing decoration (or sgraffito) representing a stylised leaf surrounded by vegetal arabesques/spirals. This is a classic and recurring motif in their artisanal repertoire. These pieces have been handmade (or cast and then decorated) by the monks since the 1950s. They are appreciated for their simple and elegant style, inspired by both Norman traditions and a certain monastic modernity. Good condition.
