Organic abstract wood sculpture by Joop van Bergen, Netherlands, 1980s

A striking organic abstract sculpture by Dutch artist Joop van Bergen, created in the 1980s and carved from solid elm wood. The work consists of three separate sculptural elements, carefully composed to create a dynamic and harmonious composition. Each element has its own distinctive shape, with flowing curves, sharply cut planes and selectively textured surfaces creating an intriguing interplay between volume and negative space. As the sculpture consists of three individual pieces, the elements can be subtly repositioned, allowing different relationships between the forms to emerge. The warm tone and pronounced natural grain of the elm further enhance the sculptural character of the work. About the Artist.
