2-seater sofa in brown leather, Illum Wikkelso for Holger Christiansen

Beautiful dark brown leather sofa by renowned designer illum wikkelso. Rosewood legs. Seat height 36 cm. Danish furniture designer kristian illum wikkelsö believed that furniture should be designed to last, to provide comfort to the body and to delight the eye. He graduated as a cabinetmaker in 1940 and, after three years at the technical society school and the danish school of arts & crafts, founded his own company in aarhus. Illum’s design was based on a craftsmanship that came from a generation of cabinetmakers, upholsterers and furniture makers established before the 1950s. Best known for his seating designs, his aesthetic is considered the essence of scandinavian style, drawing inspiration from natural and organic forms and transforming them into furniture that closely follows the human form while remaining strong and durable.
