Illum Wikkelso model V11 sofa in black leather by Holger Christiansen, Denmark, 1960

A beautiful and characterful Model V11 three-seat sofa designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by Holger Christiansen in Denmark during the 1960s. Fully upholstered in black leather, the sofa features a low rectangular body with subtly rounded corners and generous loose cushions. Six sculptural rosewood legs create a refined contrast with the dark upholstery and give the substantial form a lighter appearance. The soft seat, back and side cushions provide a comfortable and relaxed seating position. Particularly attractive is the naturally developed patina of the leather, with warm brown undertones showing through in places and adding depth and character. The balanced proportions, soft forms and emphasis on comfort are characteristic of Wikkelsø’s approach to Danish modern design, combining a strong silhouette with a relaxed appearance. The original leather has been carefully cleaned and treated with a nourishing leather cream, preserving its natural patina while reducing the appearance of minor scratches and wear. The original rosewood legs have been cleaned and treated, and the construction has been checked. The sofa is in very good condition and ready to use.
