Vintage large Art Deco wooden tray – rose decoration

Vintage wooden service tray with a varnished finish, featuring a rectangular frame with rounded corners and two large turned wooden cylindrical handles enhanced with silver-plated rings. The base of the tray is adorned with a painted decoration under glass depicting a fully bloomed red rose accompanied by a bud and leaves, set against a cream background animated by diagonal bands in trompe-l'œil imitating walnut burl. The floral decoration painted under glass was a sought-after item in French decorative arts in the first half of the 20th century, available in various sizes and patterns — roses, peonies, landscapes — to adorn both sideboards and living room tables. The turned wood work for the handles, combined with chrome metal, perfectly illustrates the Art Deco aesthetic that blends geometry and nature. Sold as is, with signs of wear visible in the photos.
