An Art Nouveau tray from the early 20th century, made in Austria, featuring characteristic elements of the Viennese Art Nouveau style. The structure is based on a silver-plated brass frame with a matte, partially patinated finish, highlighting the authenticity of the era. The central part is smooth, glossy white porcelain, decorated with hand-painted motifs of roses and leaves in subtle shades of blue and grey-blue. The round rim of the tray is relatively wide, decorated with a repetitive, delicate linear pattern, and two symmetrical, openwork handles stand out with organic lines and geometric cutouts inspired by nature and Art Nouveau plant ornamentation. The porcelain is precisely set in the metal frame, and the whole is characterized by harmonious proportions – the wide rim and handles combine decorative value with practical use. The condition is very good – only minor traces of patina and small scratches on the metal are visible, with no cracks or losses in the porcelain. The item has not been restored, retaining its original character and authenticity. This tray tells the story of the early 20th century, when Viennese Art Nouveau sought harmony between art and utility. The flowing lines of the handles and the subtle, hand-painted porcelain evoke a world where inspiration from nature and geometric order merged into a refined whole. The cool shine of silver-plated brass and the delicacy of porcelain recall the daily rituals of old bourgeois salons, where practicality went hand in hand with a love of decoration. Minor signs of age here are a silent trace of past decades, emphasizing the nobility of the material and the reliability of craftsmanship. The tray can be displayed on an oak or walnut sideboard in the living room, highlighting the qualities of classic or eclectic arrangements. It can be combined with a collection of porcelain or glass from the era, as well as with pressed silverware or an Art Nouveau vase with similar organic lines. It will work well in spaces dominated by subtle colours and natural materials, referencing the Art Nouveau style or gentle modernism, but will also find its place as a counterpoint in a modern interior – especially where detail and the history of the object matter.
