Rare ironstone compote dish, signed SFNO, a little-documented manufacturer whose stamp intrigues collectors: a stylized world map crossed by a banner bearing the letters "SFNO", accompanied by the name of the model "TOURAINE". Probably produced at the end of the 19th century, attributable to a North-West Earthenware Company, active in the Normandy region or in the west of France. The decoration, in blue monochrome, is composed of large stylized hibiscus flowers (8 main motifs), enhanced with slender foliage. It adorns the interior and exterior of the basin, as well as the edge of the pedestal, which features a fine floral frieze. The whole is balanced, of naturalist inspiration, typical of the elegance of bourgeois services of the period. Very good overall condition for its age: no visible chips or cracks, very light old patina (regular underglaze cracks) typical of ironware from this period. Legible stamp under the foot. Diameter 27 cm, height 11 cm. This compotier will delight collectors of old earthenware, lovers of mysterious pieces, as well as fans of refined decoration. It will naturally find its place as a centerpiece, in a country house kitchen or in a culinary shooting setting.
