This ceramic lamp base is a typical piece from the late 1970s. This bulbous and lobed silhouette, often referred to as "melon" or "garlic" shape, was extremely popular in French design during that time. There was a desire to return to softer, more natural forms. The cream or ivory uniform glazed ceramic is characteristic of quality mass production from those decades. It was the elegant and understated alternative to the brighter colours of the 1960s.
