We Guéré Mask Côte d'Ivoire polychrome

Ancient mask from Côte d'Ivoire known as We Guéré. A very beautiful piece made of carved and polychrome wood with white and red hues. These masks were used to prepare men during war ceremonies and were meant to instil fear in the enemy. The mask features protruding eyes and a gaping mouth adorned with colourful decorations. The face is decorated with a large raffia beard. Patina of use. - Dimensions - L 25 x D 10 x H 36 cm
