Dan mask carved from dark wood, originally from west africa, adorned with cowrie shells and colorful plastic beads, characteristic of productions from the second half of the 20th century. This type of mask is traditionally used during ceremonies and initiation rites among the dan, a people present in ivory coast and liberia. The facial features are finely carved, with narrow, horizontally slit eyes, a slightly open mouth, and white markings evoking ritual scarification. The textile frame is adorned with cowrie shells, symbols of prosperity and spiritual protection. Unlike older pieces adorned with glass beads, this mask features plastic beads, attesting to a more recent manufacture, but still rooted in the dan artisanal tradition. The interior of the mask bears traces of use and a natural patina, testifying to its authenticity. Some minor marks and cracks are visible, without altering its appearance or solidity.
