Red marble fireplace in the Louis XVI style, late 19th century

A Louis XVI style fireplace in Belgian red marble, dating from the second half of the 19th century. The lintel is recessed on each side with a central rosette. The quarter-round jambs are fluted and decorated with rosettes at the top. It has a mantel top with a shelf. The marble is very fine, with minor restorations to the moldings framing the firebox. It has been cleaned and polished by a marble specialist. Provenance: a residence in the Sarthe region of France. Dimensions: H 108 x W 145 x D 39 cm. Firebox: H 83 x W 108 x D 29 cm.
