The 'Pieniek' vase is an example of 1960s Czechoslovakian design, made of pressed glass in an intense, cool shade of blue. Its elongated, cylindrical form and pronounced texture reminiscent of tree bark create a minimalist, modern character typical of mid-century modern style. The glass surface shows a subtle tonal transition effect – the colour thickens and darkens towards the bottom, almost turning black. The glossy finish enlivens the vase with light reflections, and the whole piece is in very good condition: no chips, cracks or signs of heavy use, with smooth edges and a non-irritating texture. No visible signs of restoration or discolouration. This glass cylinder echoes the 1960s, when designers boldly combined inspiration from nature and industrial precision. The bark-like structure, enclosed in cool blue, gives the impression of energy trapped in glass – as if a piece of forest has been brought into the heart of a city living room. The simple line of the form and the transparency of the material allow for a play of light, which dances on the surface, emphasising the modernist, reflective tone of the post-war optimism period. The vase can be used as a standalone decorative accent or as a background for minimalist compositions of branches, single flowers or dried grasses. It works well on a low wooden console, next to ceramic vessels or mid-century style posters, where the pronounced texture and blue glass contrast with the matte surfaces of the surroundings.
