This functionalist console chair was designed by Jindřich Halabala in the 1930s for UP závody Rousínov and represents an important example of early modernist seating design in Czechoslovakia. The piece reflects Halabala’s exploration of ergonomics, cantilever construction, and reduced form during the interwar period. The chair combines a chromed steel tubular structure with bent veneered wood elements, including a shaped seat and a characteristic curved backrest with an integrated handle. The cantilever construction gives the chair visual lightness while providing stable and comfortable seating, blurring the line between chair and armchair. This example remains completely original and is not a later re-edition. The veneer shows a well-preserved grain pattern, the chrome is in very good condition with natural patina, and the structure is solid and stable. The price is for one chair; three matching pieces are available.
