Pair of English Chippendale-style chairs in oak with an open lyre back, 19th century. Pair of English chairs, in Chippendale style, dating from the 19th century. Entirely made of dark-stained solid oak. Open back framed by slightly profiled straight uprights. The upper rail is shaped in a scroll form, known as an arbalète. The central element consists of a wide open baluster, carved in the shape of a stylised lyre or vase, highlighted by light mouldings carved from the mass. Seat of the independent frame type (removable cushion). Upholstery covered in a light ecru fabric. Removable system simply fitting into the frame, facilitating cleaning or future replacement of the fabric. Square-section legs, with straight and understated lines. Traditional cabinetmaking assembly using mortise and tenon joints. Very satisfactory condition. Structure is sound, stable, and rigid, suitable for daily use. There is a beautiful patina of use on the wood and slight surface wear marks inherent to its age. Visible in the images is a slight gap of a few millimetres at the junction of a tenon and mortise on the seat frame, purely cosmetic and without impact on the overall solidity. Cushions are clean and the fabric is in generally good condition. Measurements: • Total height: 95 cm. • Seat height: 46 cm. • Seat width: 50 cm. • Seat depth: 40 cm.
