Table and 4 chairs by Marc Held edition Bessière, 1983

Rare dining table set with its 4 chairs, designed in 1983 for ibm's headquarters in montpellier. The production was entrusted by the artist to the publisher bessiere. The 4-seater table: satin-white melaminate plated tray, beech headband with 4 openings designed to accommodate suspended chairs, beech base, black lacquered steel base of curved round section. Metal crossing. H: 73, 5, l: 138, p: 78 cm. The 4 chairs: backs and seating in thermo-moulded laminate, spice and maple veneer forming volutes, laminated-glued beech base in compass shape connected to two wooden cylindrical ties, half-metal ring for insertion into the table (slight lacks of spice but overall the chairs are very beautiful) marc held is one of the five designers who, in 1983, are redeveloping, at the élysée palace, the private apartments of the president of the republic. In parallel to this prestigious construction site, the 1980s were marked by monumental projects for ibm, where he replaced the official architect who had just disappeared, marcel breuer. Marc held built a social centre near montpellier, before working on the new paris headquarters of the american firm, the descartes tower, in la défense. Only 60 tables and 300 chairs will be produced by the bessière carpentry, the yvelines (78). Real pieces of very decorative collections, in the sure taste of marc held.
