Ancient shield known as "Gladwa", originating from the Mandala populations of northern Cameroon. Originally made of leather (cow, buffalo, or elephant), these shields evolved in the 1950s to include models made of hammered metal, like the one for sale here. We love the embossed pattern that gives a beautiful design to the whole piece. It shows signs of use, with traces of wear and rust patina in places. The shield can be hung on the wall - as presented here - using a hook on the back (the one that was used to hold the shield at the back). It would also be possible to have a stand made by my metalworker; feel free to request a quote for that. - Dimensions - L 51 X H 86 X D 7 cm approximately.
