Pair of Dutch Art Nouveau Ceramic Table Lamps, circa 1915, with New Ochre Linen Shades

A pair of Dutch Art Nouveau ceramic table lamps in green and ivory, hand-painted with stylized orchids at the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek, circa 1915–1920. The bases are unique organic twin-handled "ear" vases newly mounted as lamps by Amitābha Studio and paired with custom new ochre linen lampshades that are a perfect color and size/shape match for the bases. The lamp bases are a very rare and unique shape that brings that natural element of Art Nouveau into the forms of the bases. The hand-painting—in an earthy organic palate of matte glazes in greens, ivory, ochre and lilac—is delicate and sinuous giving the vibrant feeling of a living growing plant. The painting is attributed to Herman Sol, whose work for Arnhem is found in museums. A truly one-of-a-kind pair. About the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek. Founded in Arnhem in 1907 by the brothers Klaas and Jacob Vet, the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek grew out of the pottery they had run in Purmerend until fire destroyed it in 1906. Klaas, who had trained at De Distel, directed the models and the artistic program, and the factory became known for cream-ground earthenware carrying tightly stylized floral decoration. It reached its height in the early 1920s and closed in 1934. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. The lamp bases are paired with bespoke lampshades and each piece is finished with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements.
