Pirkka coffee table mid-century by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Laukaan Puu, 1960s

Vintage design. Original Pirkka coffee table by Laukaan Puu according to a design by Ilmari Tapiovaara from the 1950s. This version of the Pirkka coffee table is very rare and hard to find. An original Tapiovaara from that era and no current replicas. The design combines rusticity and elegance. Rustic in materiality, elegant in the finely executed construction. A divided top breaks up the size of the table surface, making it lighter and less dominant. The contrast, the characteristic two-tone of the top and frame, is particularly important. The frame is made of solid wood elements painted black, designed in a spindle shape and functionally connected. The table is in remarkably good condition and shows barely any signs of wear. The surface was likely protected by a coating, as indicated by marks on the underside.
