"Paul Alfred Marie Daxhelet, born on 25 November 1905 in Liège, son of Paul Joseph Hubert Daxhelet and Louise Marie Céline Crahay, and died on 3 October 1993 in Liège, was a Belgian painter and engraver. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, Paul Daxhelet developed a body of work in the 1930s where sporting themes dominate, particularly boxing, which the painter also practises. After the Second World War, Daxhelet became the painter of colonial exoticism; he brought back sketches and drawings from his many travels in Belgian Congo, then in India, the Far East, South America, Polynesia, and Senegal, from which he created, in multiple variations, paintings characterised by colour and movement.".
