Arnold Madsen & Henry Schubell three-piece lounge set for Bovenkamp, 1960s

An exceptional three-piece lounge set designed by Danish designers Arnold Madsen and Henry Schubell for Bovenkamp in the Netherlands, dating from 1964. The set consists of a sofa and two complementary armchairs, featuring the distinctive high-back gentleman's chair with its original headrest cushion and the more compact low-back lady's chair. The design is characterised by its beautifully crafted solid oak frames, complemented by elegantly sculpted teak armrests that extend continuously beyond the backrests. This distinctive construction creates a striking architectural silhouette, particularly when viewed from the side and rear. The combination of warm oak and contrasting teak highlights the refined craftsmanship and strong Scandinavian design influence. The generously proportioned seats and gently angled backrests provide excellent comfort, while the exposed wooden structures give the pieces a light, elegant appearance. All three pieces retain their original matching upholstery, featuring a beautifully textured fabric in warm, earthy tones. The upholstery has been exceptionally well preserved, showing only some gentle fading consistent with age. The original fabric contributes significantly to the authenticity and character of this complete ensemble. Each piece bears the original Bovenkamp manufacturer's stamp with the number 64, confirming the production year of 1964. A beautifully preserved and increasingly uncommon complete lounge set, combining Danish design sensibilities with the craftsmanship of Dutch furniture manufacturer Bovenkamp. Particularly appealing as an ensemble, with its matching original upholstery, contrasting wood species and distinctive combination of high- and low-back seating.
