Very old and beautiful color lithograph of butterflies. 🦋 Illustration of rhopalocera (Rhopalocera in Latin), including Podalirius. 🦋 This plate is an original from 1887. It is not a copy but an engraving of more than 130 years! 🦋 size: 28 X 21 cm. 🦋 a detailed and realistic work from a specialized book; with a dozen different species illustrated. 🦋 The state of the engraving is OK: tear at the bottom right, worn edges, small reddish burr at the top right, trace of wear especially at the bottom left. Once framed, it will hardly be seen anymore and will give a beautiful vintage effect. 🦋 The Rhopalocera (or "butterflies" in the common sense) are an ancient suborder of Lepidoptera. It is opposed to heterocera (heterocera, or "moths"). No. Of board: 1. The size is ideal for framing. It fits perfectly in a standard frame, see the example image. The paper used is of high quality, cream color. Often colored manually, the colors are vibrant, sharp and well contrasted: a remarkable work. Note, the back is without text or image. The author of the book "die gross-schmetterlinge europas"" is Dr. E. Hofmann, famous entomologist (1837 - 1892) specialized in insects, especially lepidoptera (lepidoptera). His entomology and butterfly collections are held at the Natural History Museum in London and by the National Museum of Natural History in Washington. Shipping possible.
