Cod 11231 antique French painting from the first half of the 19th century. Oil on oak panel of excellent pictorial quality depicting a neoclassical subject entitled Amintas (Aminta), after the famous work by Torquato Tasso. A good-sized painting characterized by warm and well-defined colors. Aminta, a young shepherd, falls in love, without reciprocity, with the beautiful mortal nymph Silvia. Even after saving her from the clutches of a satyr, the girl abandons him without even saying goodbye. Aminta, desperate to have found a bloodstained veil of the nymph, attempts suicide. After various vicissitudes, the story ends with the crowning of love between the two. Painting attributable to the French painter Philippe Jacques van Brée (1784-1871), lacking additional documentation. Work that has undergone slight conservative restoration over time. The panel has minor color losses (see photo), structurally sound, solid and with a beautiful patina. Overall paint in good condition.
