Coffee table by Pierre Chapo in solid elm and ceramic – circa 1960

Very beautiful French coffee table designed by Pierre Chapo in the 1960s. Made of solid elm and featuring a remarkable top of ceramic tiles in shades of brown, beige, black, and bluish white. The piece possesses all the strength of Chapo's furniture: a deliberately legible construction, generous proportions, and a woodwork that becomes a decorative element in its own right. The rectangular structure rests on four straight legs. The contrast between the warmth of the elm and the mineral texture of the ceramic adds a lot of presence to the whole. Both robust and very architectural, this coffee table expresses the meeting of traditional craftsmanship and modernity that characterises Pierre Chapo's work. The table shows a beautiful patina of use, with the marks and natural nuances related to its age, visible in the photographs.
