A rare and remarkable three-panel screen, entirely woodburned, depicting a landscape of a medieval Mediterranean town. In a style blending Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences, the artist Guyot (signed and dated "Guyot 30") deploys here a decor of great finesse, where each detail seems captured in a frozen moment of light and silence. The scene reveals an old fortified town, with a stone bridge with two arches. In the center of the bridge, a large fortified gate—perhaps a toll booth or a barbican—protects access to the city. Beneath the arches, a nearly dry river reveals two thin streams of water in their stony beds of great texture. The work is distinguished by a subtle highlighting of colors in certain areas, accentuating the depth of the composition without breaking the overall harmony of the stained wood. This partial coloring reveals the contrasts of shadow, the materials of the buildings, the differences in masonry, and draws the eye to the small character wearing a pink hat entering the city. In the background, slender cypresses, gentle hills and large cumulus clouds evoke the timeless charm of a semi-rural Mediterranean landscape – between the South of France, Tuscany or Andalusia. A work of character, both decorative and narrative, ideal for a refined interior or a collection of unique objects.
