Standard chair SP - Vitra

Exhibition model in excellent condition / Seat and backrest: ASA plastic (fine texture) / Frame: folded sheet steel and tube, epoxy finish and high-gloss surface / The greatest forces exerted on a chair are borne by the back legs, because they carry the weight of the upper body. It's a simple concept that engineer and designer jean prouvé put into practice when designing the standard chair: while a steel tube is all that's needed for the two front legs, which are subject to less stress, the chair's back legs are made up of bulky hollow bodies that transmit the load to the floor.
