Murano glass chandelier by gino vistosi, italy circa 1960-1970 metal frame with 18 white and translucent murano glass pendants, 15 cm in diameter. Total height (excluding chain): 32 cm. Width approx. 30 cm. Good general condition. Note however 1 damaged pendant which has been glued back together. Sockets for e14 bulbs. Gino vistosi (1925-1980) was an italian artist known for his blown glass works, characterized by an elegant and modern style. He helped popularize the technique and aesthetics of blown glass as an art in its own right, making him a major figure in 20th century italian art. History of the vistosi glassworks: in the 17th century, the name vistosi was the name of the murano glassmaking family. Gazzabin has owned the “al bastian” furnace since 1640 and has been dedicated to the art of glassblowing for a century. In 1791, giobatta gazzabin vistosi became the head of the masters of glass art and the representative of the masters of the murano furnaces. In 1945, after a dark period due to the second world war, guglielmo vistosi, heir to the gazzabins, opened a new furnace in murano and began to devote himself to the production of lighting fixtures. In 1967, angelo mangiarotti designed “giogali”, a chandelier with a series of modular glass hooks without a fixed structure that would become the symbol of the vistosi collections. In 1989, giancarlo moretti, a murano glass entrepreneur, took over the vistosi brand and founded vetreria vistosi, run by his son matteo. Under the direction of guglielmo's grandchildren, gino and luciano began a collaboration with the greatest contemporary designers, from which were born emblematic creations in the history of italian industrial design: alega by vico magistretti, the table lamp by gae aulenti, vega by michele de lucchi, the creations of ettore sottsass and adalberto dal lago...
