Porcelain vase, with a flattened globular body and flared neck. The glaze features a gradient from red-purple to lavender blue towards the base, sprinkled with characteristic emerald green crystallisations of the peacock glaze yōhen kujaku (孔雀釉). Turquoise inner lip. Glossy finish. Signed with a hexagonal seal under the foot. Delivered with its signed and sealed tomobako bearing the inscription 孔雀釉 (kujaku-yū — peacock glaze) and 松山雅英作 (work of Matsuyama Gaei). Dimensions Height: 20 cm — Diameter: 21 cm Matsuyama Gaei 初代 松山雅英 (1916–1963) Ceramicist from Tatsuno (Hyōgo Prefecture). Trained in China during the Sino-Japanese War, then with Kiyomizu Rokube in Kyoto. Founded the Kujaku-gama kiln in Tatsuno in 1947. Developed the yōhen kujaku tenmoku glaze (copper transmutation into peacock glaze) in 1951, which became the kiln's signature. His works have been presented to Emperor Hirohito (1953), Indian Prime Minister Nehru (1956), and American President Eisenhower (1960).
