Painted Folk Art Bridal Chest 1854

Beautiful painted bridal chest from germany, or to be precise from franconia. The chest is painted in a reddish brown colour and has painted panels, including the name and wedding date of the original owner. This old paint is quite worn and weathered, which gives the whole a rustic and characteristic appearance. Sporadically, there are some old woodworm traces visible throughout, these have of course been checked and treated. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. These pieces of furniture were later placed in a state room on the farm that was only rarely used for high-ranking visitors or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
