Vintage mid-century modern art pottery charger, dish plate by Marjatta Taburet. Handcrafted in Quimper, Brittany, France, in the 1960s. This hand-painted and signed one-of-a-kind decorative ceramic charger was created by the listed artist and master potter Marjatta Taburet, born in 1931 in Helsinki, Finland. This glazed and hand-painted stoneware dish represents her typical work, showcasing a beautiful polychrome decor in turquoise, orange, pink, blue, yellow, and green hues, forming a stunning image of flowers and an exotic peacock. After apprenticing at Arabia ceramics in Finland, she moved to Paris to study in 1950, eventually graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1959. She worked at Quimper from 1967 until 1984, when she opened her own studio with her husband, Jean-Claude Taburet, a renowned listed potter. Marjatta Taburet is also the author of the book "La Faïence de Quimper." A similar plate is referenced in the "Encyclopedia of Quimper Pottery, " volume V, page 412. This dish, signed "Marjatta Taburet HB Quimper, " circa 1960, measures approximately 26 cm X 26 cm and is in very good vintage condition with one small chip at the back of the plate.
