Bride chest painted in folk art

This magnificent antique bridal chest dates from 1894 and features delicate painting with wood-grain motifs. This example comes from southern Germany and is a fine example of folk art from that period. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this as a wedding gift to the couple. This furniture would then be placed in a stately room on the farm, reserved only for distinguished visitors or special occasions. All our bridal chests have been inspected and, where necessary, restored, although the characteristic appearance of these chests has been preserved. This example retains its original paintwork and still has a working lock and key. 57 cm high, 131 cm wide, 66 cm deep.
