Pair of Art Nouveau candlesticks decorated with snakes, foliage, and roses – Patinated spelter – France/Belgium – circa 1900. Description: Superb and rare pair of Art Nouveau candlesticks in patinated spelter, Franco-Belgian work circa 1900–1910. The richly detailed naturalistic decoration depicts a snake entwined around the stem, surrounded by stylized leaves. The pieces perfectly illustrate the symbolist and organic aesthetic of the Art Nouveau movement. • Material: Patinated spelter (zinc-based alloy). • Technique: Cast iron with screw assembly. • Period: Early 20th century (circa 1895–1910). • Provenance: France or Belgium. • Height: Approx. 32 cm. • Base width: Approx. 15 cm. • Model number: 109. DC (molded under the base). Markings: Handwritten workshop initials visible under the base. Condition: Original patina preserved with signs of wear. Casting cracks visible under one base (common on spelter of this period). The piece remains stable and presents well. A few minor losses around the edges, on the tips of two petals. Antique pieces, unrestored, left with their authentic patina. Complete pair (rare).
