Beni Ouarain rug, 250 x 160 cm - AZ832

A beautifully discreet handmade Beni Ouarain rug, entirely woven from natural ivory wool and defined by a large-scale diamond lattice created through subtle changes in pile and texture. Rather than using contrasting dark lines, the artisan has worked the traditional Beni Ouarain diamond pattern in tone-on-tone, allowing the geometry to emerge through relief, shadow, and exposed sections of the woven foundation. The result is calm, sophisticated, and decidedly contemporary while remaining rooted in the tradition of Amazigh weaving. Each rug is handwoven by Amazigh (Berber) artisans, made from 100% natural sheep wool, woven on a traditional Berber loom, individually knotted and finished by hand, created using traditional Moroccan weaving techniques and completely unique. No mass production — only authentic Berber craftsmanship. Colour palette: natural ivory, warm cream, soft oat undertones. The subtle variations visible on the surface are part of the character of natural wool and handmade weaving. The rug features a repetitive oversized diamond lattice, one of the most recognisable geometric shapes associated with traditional Beni Ouarain weaving. Here, however, the pattern has been interpreted in an exceptionally subtle way. Narrow low-pile channels trace the diamonds on a soft, dense wool surface, creating a pattern that becomes more or less visible depending on the direction of light. The absence of strong colour contrast gives the rug an almost sculptural quality. From a distance, it appears calm and minimal; up close, the variations in pile, hand-knotting, and weaving reveal considerable texture and craftsmanship. The small irregularities in the diamonds are intentional features of hand weaving and make each section slightly different.
