High central European chest of drawers with four washed pine drawers, made in Central Europe at the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century. A bourgeois piece with generous proportions, halfway between a main bedroom chest and a family storage unit, representative of rural furniture from Central Europe in its clearest and brightest interpretation. In bourgeois and rural homes in Central Europe at the turn of the century, the high chest of drawers was the main piece of furniture in the bedroom. It stored linen, family textiles, and personal effects in four graduated drawers — the top one narrower for small items, and the lower ones progressively deeper for blankets and bulky clothing. The stripping of the original paint has given the piece a second life in a contemporary key. It is constructed from solid pine with washed fronts that reveal the natural grain of the wood. The four drawers are assembled with visible dovetail joints and retain their original white ceramic handles on steel backplates, as well as the original lock entries. The frame-and-panel construction is clearly visible on the sides, and the base rises on a straight plinth that organises the verticality of the whole. Details.
