Sofa and pair of armchairs – Louis XVI period – Refinished wood and fabric

Louis XVI period salon consisting of a sofa and a pair of armchairs in grey-green lacquered wood (with highlights) featuring mouldings and gold leaf ornaments. The sofa has a concave arched backrest topped with two finials in the shape of fluted golden vases; the tapered fluted legs and rosettes at the corners are characteristic of the Louis XVI style. The armchairs display a rectangular backrest of the same design. The set is upholstered in a cream background Toile de Jouy printed in burgundy red, with chinoiserie motifs (figures in oriental costumes, butterflies, birds, scrolls) and a wavy garland with cartouches; the armchairs are adorned with matching cushions with twisted red and white trimmings. Workshop report: the upholstery shows notable stains and marks requiring cleaning. The wood exhibits wear and chipping of the lacquer and gilding; a consolidation of the gilding is to be expected.
