A sculptural stoneware pitcher in the style of modernism defined by soft lines and an organic shape. Created in the 1950’s by swedish-finnish designer lillemor mannerheim (1927-1994) as part of her coveted “m-series” for gefle porcelain factory (f. 1910). Originally titled m 27, this pitcher is finished with the reputable mangania glaze, characterized by its rich black nuance and satin matte surface. Height: 20 cm. Sweden, c. 1950. In good vintage condition. Lillemor mannerheim was a swedish-finnish countess and ceramicist known for her seemingly elemental yet refined design. Born in the finnish village of vichtis, mannerheim grew up in a family of artistic talent surrounded by nature and animals; a beloved milieu influencing her later artistic work. Paired with the pioneering style of abstract-geometrical modernism, mannerheim developed a unique expression during her time as an art student in stockholm, charachterized by anthropomorphic forms and modernist influences. It was a style in tune with the contemporary zeitgeist, ensuring mannerheim employment at the esteemed gefle porcelain factory as well as a prominent place in scandinavian design history.
