This little “tansu” (chest of drawers in japanese) dates from the 1850s-80s. Meiji period. It is made of paulownia wood, nicknamed “imperial tree” in japan. The corners and edges are reinforced with metal - in a compact format it has 15 drawers. Condition: very patinated - scratches, shocks from use. The fittings (painted black) are oxidized - chips at the bottom of the rear panel. Robust - stable - heavy objects can be placed on it. It will need to be waxed lightly.
