Empire commode in mahogany and flame mahogany veneer, 19th century. This elegant commode features three wide drawers at the front without a crossbar, showcasing a superb mirror-patterned mahogany veneer. The deep, shimmering grain adds a great deal of refinement to the piece. The sides are adorned with detached columns typical of the Empire style, topped with finely chiselled gilt bronze capitals and bases. The front is highlighted by original circular gilt bronze pull knobs. The top is crowned with an antique dark grey marble, contrasting elegantly with the warmth of the mahogany. Very high-quality cabinetmaking for this piece with harmonious proportions, both understated, powerful, and decorative. Period: 19th century. Style: Empire. Materials: mahogany, mahogany veneer, gilt bronze, and marble. Condition: good overall condition with beautiful old patina and signs of use consistent with the period. Dimensions: H: 91 cm.
