There are lamps that illuminate. And then there are those that create an atmosphere. Its solid mahogany base is of rare elegance. A slender, balanced line, with a circular base carved with a fine groove – almost a small secret receptacle where one could place a ring, a pair of earrings, a treasure of everyday life. A ribbon delicately adorns the base, echoing the woven lampshade. And what a lampshade… Its conical shape immediately evokes an Asian straw hat, like a distant nod to the landscapes of Southeast Asia. A soft, soothing silhouette, almost meditative. The original brass socket is preserved – bayonet – with its small brown Bakelite button, delightfully retro. This detail always touches me: you turn on the light directly at the source, with a simple and authentic gesture. The electricity has been completely revised, with a brown cord chosen to remain faithful to the original harmony, and a new bayonet LED bulb is provided. When off, it is sculptural. When lit, it diffuses a warm, enveloping, almost golden light. A beautifully crafted lamp, probably from the 1950s-70s, at the crossroads of chic colonial style and the enthusiasm for exoticism found in certain French and European productions of the time. It evokes interiors inspired by distant travels, very fashionable in the post-war decades. It has that quiet charm of objects that transcend time without ever going out of style.
