Antique teak armchair by Erik Kirkegaard for Glostrup, Denmark, 1960s. Kirkegaard's designs, which are part of the Scandinavian modern style that took the design world by storm in the 1950s and 1960s, were produced by chair manufacturer høng stolefabrik, based on the danish island of zealand. The vast majority of vintage Kirkegaard pieces found on the market are Høng productions. Its dining chairs are made from dark stained teak, usually with black leather seats, with a minimalist aesthetic. Kirkegaard's 49 Chair (1956) features a unique sculpted back and curved armrest that will remind Hans Wegner fans everywhere of the infamous Round Chair (1949). The carved cow horn armrests and angular a-shaped legs are other distinctive elements of erik kirkegaard's designs. Kirkegaard also designed for glostrup møbelfabrik (although less prolifically), a manufacturer which produced a variety of tables, chairs and storage furniture from designers such as grete jalk and arne vodder. Dimensions: h71 x l52 x p61.
