Vintage GM11 Svend Aage Eriksen office chair, 1960s

Superb Danish office chair Svend-Aage Eriksen (1918-2002) in solid teak and black skai published by Glostrup in the 1960s. Very stable, solid and comfortable, it is in very good general condition. There are some superficial traces of friction on the back of the backrest and a small scratch in the skai (see photo). The seat and the front of the backrest are in very good condition. Svend-aage Eriksen was a renowned Danish designer, known for his innovative and functional work in the fields of furniture and lighting. Born in Copenhagen, he studied at the city's Royal Academy of Fine Arts and worked for various design firms before opening his own studio in 1954. Eriksen was greatly influenced by the Modern movement and designers such as Arne Jacobsen and Finn Juhl. He was one of the first to use materials such as plastic and molded plywood in his designs, creating organic and elegant forms. Today, his designs are considered classics of Danish Modern design and are widely exhibited in museums and design collections around the world.
