Mumuye statue, Nigeria. Formerly from the Belgian tribal art collection. Estimated age: 1940. Supported by a high, massive neck, the narrow, ovoid head features the clan's distinctive hairstyle and the remains of ears distended by curls, worn only by women of the ethnic group, and long, dangling arms with spatula-shaped hands. Dark patina with golden highlights.
