Iconic Mah Jong Sofa by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois France 1971

Mah Jong sofa, designed by the designer, painter and sculptor Hans Hopfer in 1971 for Roche Bobois France. The sofa consist of 9 elements: 6 seat cushions and 3 backrest cushions of which one a corner backrest. The fabric was designed by the Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada. He drew the inspiration for the patterns and colours from the traditional kimonos that were used in the Japanese No-theatre. The Mah Jong sofa is a fully modular system of cushions, that brings total freedom of form and function. It quickly became a benchmark for creative design and still is a beloved sofa nowadays. The sofa is in good original condition with some traces of use. Some general discoloration. One back cushion (in the photos the right one) has a big stain (not overly visible though) and the green/pink striped seat cushion has stains and tiny damages at the back-sides (not visible when in use).
