Antique Dutch Art Deco (Haagse School) oak chairs

A beautifully crafted modernist armchair by L.O.V. Oosterbeek (Labor Omnia Vincit) from the 1920s, documented in the original factory catalogue. This design reflects the refined sobriety and geometric clarity characteristic of the Hague School, a Dutch Art Deco movement known for its architectural restraint and cubist forms. The chair is made of solid oak and features clean, straight lines and a subtle architectural silhouette. The robust, vertical legs provide both stability and a powerful appearance, while the rich oak grain adds warmth and tactility to the otherwise strict geometry. The seat is upholstered in burgundy corduroy (of a later date); the deep colour forms a beautiful contrast with the oak frame. Chairs by L.O.V. Oosterbeek – one of the most important Dutch furniture manufacturers of the early 20th century – embody the ideals of the Hague School: calm proportions, high-quality materials and a conscious rejection of excessive ornamentation in favour of honest construction. An exemplary piece of early modern Dutch design, balancing functional rigour and understated elegance. CONDITION: Good condition, reupholstered.
