Bicolour glass ashtray – Braine-le-Comte

Superb and rare vintage ashtray made of thick blown glass, in an intense orange-red hue, surrounded by clear glass. Its generous shape is accented by three notches and offers beautiful light reflections. This piece comes from the Verreries-Gobeleteries of Braine-le-Comte, an important Belgian glassworks founded in 1905 and active until 1975. The glassworks reached its peak during the interwar period and regained significant activity from the late 1950s. It notably collaborated with Val Saint-Lambert for the production of semi-crystal. The decorative productions of Braine-le-Comte are now significantly less documented than its production of tableware; a specialised source also indicates that the factory only clearly labelled its own productions towards the end of its activity. The example retains part of its old silver label, visible in the photos. In very good vintage condition: no chips. Dimensions: D 15.5 × H 8 cm.
