This prunus vase is made using blue-and-white technique and depicts the pattern of the eight immortals crossing the sea on its body. The eight immortals crossing the sea is one of the traditional chinese mythological stories that tells the tale of eight immortals overcoming hardships and eventually ascending to immortality. This story is a part of taoist beliefs and also reflects the cultural spirit of chinese people pursuing longevity. The intricate patterns on the vase are vivid and filled with mythological colors and a sense of mystery. The prunus vase is a type of bottle with a small mouth, short neck, ample shoulders, slim base, and a circular foot. It is named after its small mouth that can only accommodate plum branches. During the song dynasty, this type of vase was called a "jing vase" and was mainly used for holding wine. The prunus vase has an exceptionally beautiful and elegant shape, and after the ming dynasty, it gradually came to be used as a flower vase, becoming a classic in traditional chinese porcelain art.
