Italian Rococo Silver Mecca Giltwood Throne Armchair, Rome, 18th Century

This antique Italian Rococo 18th century (circa 1740) throne armchair, sourced from a palazzo in Rome, features intricate swirls, curls, and foliate motifs hand-carved throughout. The deeply carved and pierced solid wood frame boasts a sophisticated mecca gilding with silver leaf. Its high backrest and slightly curved armrests are exceptionally decorative, with an ornate crest featuring rocaille design. The overstuffed back and seat are upholstered in mustard yellow velvet, ensuring full comfort. A solid X-stretcher connecting the cabriolet legs enhances seating stability. This elegant and large armchair, with a wide seat and mecca gilding, is both decorative and scenographic, making it a wonderful addition to any room, especially a library, study, or office, as a luxurious desk chair. The piece is in perfect structural condition and very good antique condition, considering its age and use. It exhibits a wonderful original patina and mecca gilding, with minor wear adding to its solemn character. Upon request, a conservative restoration service is available for a small fee.
