Mazzega lamp in Murano glass and onyx – Italian design – 1960s/1970s

Sculptural table lamp combining a turned solid onyx base and a blown glass globe from Murano. The composition plays on the contrast between the veined translucency of the natural onyx and the diffuse softness of the opaline glass, typical of Italian productions from the second half of the 20th century. The glass globe features an elegant spherical shape with a relief-worked opening, a characteristic detail of hand-blown glass from Murano. The chrome metal fixing system adds a discreet modernist touch to the whole. This type of lamp is part of the great tradition of Italian decorative lighting from the 1960s–1970s, a period during which Murano workshops closely collaborated with designers to create pieces that are both functional and highly decorative.
