We are delighted to offer for sale this rare throne sofa or bench finely carved in walnut in the figurative Venetian baroque style, attributed to Valentino Panciera Besarel (Venice, 1829-1902) in the style of Andrea Brustolon (1662-1732). The piece is in excellent overall condition and is a very old model. This carved walnut throne sofa features a sloping padded backrest above a cushioned seat. The armrests are sculpted to the elbow with figures of elongated putti looking towards the sky, carved almost in the round, supported by leafy branches. The vigorously sculpted neoclassical figures supporting the leafy armrests are true works of art, and the side rails are adorned with volutes converging into a central cartouche. The vigorous baroque style of sculpture evokes that of Andrea Brustolon, an important sculptor and cabinetmaker who created furniture for several grand Venetian palaces. The wood has been lightly cleaned, waxed, and hand-polished. The leather upholstery is made from high-quality Italian leather, polished to a deep cigar brown colour. Dimensions: Height 106.5 cm, Width 143 cm, Depth 83 cm. All measurements are taken at the widest point. Please refer to the detailed photos included in the description for the condition. Please note that vintage and original items like this leather seat exhibit natural patina with cracks, creases, and wear. We recommend regular waxing to prevent moisture loss. Additionally, the hand-dyed leather should not be exposed to prolonged direct sunlight as this can dry it out and cause discolouration.
