1930's Side Table by Thonet

This is an unusual and rare side table which was in the production of the thonet company at the beginning of the 20th century. This more traditional looking decorative piece can be found in the thonet catalogue from the 1930’s on the same page as some minimal avant-garde furniture made of tubular steel. This is very atypical of thonet marketing but perhaps speaks of the true quality and modernity of this piece. It’s design is inspired by baroque curves and shapes and also by the art nouveau movement and the members of the wiener werkstätte. Its particularly similar to the work of austrian artist dagobert peche. His work was in turn inspired by classicism and baroque ideals. Sadly there is no mentioning of the designer of this piece in the thonet catalogue but it is likely to be peche. The table have been recently completely refurbished and is in great vintage condition with only minimal wear and patina gained over the years... Our experienced craftsman has carried the restoration to the highest standard, using original techniques and respecting the character of the chair whilst reviving the natural pattern of the wood.
